Lancashire
County Council renewed email encryption service to provide secure
email capability to 5,000 authority employees and 1.3 million
citizens
DALLAS,
April 01 , 2008 -- Zix Corporation (ZixCorp®)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI),
the leader in hosted services for email encryption and e-prescribing,
today announced that the Lancashire County Council, an administration
in Northwest England governing over 1.3 million citizens, has
renewed their contract with ZixCorp to provide hosted email encryption
service. The Lancashire County Council originally purchased ZixCorp
services in 2004 to help comply with the 2005 Central Government
initiative deadline for local municipalities to secure the contents
of confidential electronic communication. Lancashire County Council
has now increased their usage to over 30,000 secure emails a year.
The council signed a one year extension contract for ZixVPM(R)
(Virtual Private Messenger) enterprise-wide security services
and ZixPort(TM) secure Web portal services to meet the needs of
its 40 divisions including, Social Services, Educational Services
and Environmental Services. ZixVPM is a gateway encryption solution
that will enable the council to uphold its security policies for
inbound and outbound email communications for 5,000 of its employees,
including automatic filtering of confidential or sensitive information.
ZixPort will provide the municipality's existing Web portal with
private and secure communications capability while minimizing
the impact to its existing IT, Web and security infrastructures.

training for all staff members to interact with colleagues, business
partners, and members of the public -- the latter particularly
assists in meeting the e-government agenda of Central Government
by providing the citizens of Lancashire with a secure electronic

Council from the company's UK reseller, Marple Limited, an IT
consulting group in the UK established in 1990 and a global partner
